The Maastricht-Valkenburg area development (GOMV), has recently granted Marres Projects to commission a new vision for the Plenkertstraat. The area once known as a prestigious tourist destiniation for the Limburg area, requires a common thread to re-connect it’s now fragmented historical and recreational areas. Studio Agata Karolina along with Dana Cannam Design, collaborated with Maastricht-Valkenburg Area Development (GOMV) to create a new vision for the Plenkertstraat in Valkenburg.

By identifying “dead zones” between various districts, the design team applied a swarm analysis to create a parametric wayfinding system. This system utilizes limestone, a material intrinsic to the region, to create impeding gateways. These gateways serve as nodes, allowing tourists to better visualize the landmarks within the Plenkertstraat .
